Men Vs. Women: Hair Difference
Before I start giving you the techniques I used to grow my hair faster, you should also know how men’s and women’s hair differ.
These key points are important things you need to consider when styling and growing your hair.
A few differences include the position and the shape of our hairlines.
◆ Hairline’s Position
Generally, our hairlines are farther back compared to women’s, creating an illusion of a larger forehead.
A nice way to hide this position is by getting full bangs.
◆ The Shape of the Hairline
Since our temples are more likely receding, the M-shape of our hairlines is very visible above our foreheads.
And if you are experiencing hair loss, your M-shaped hairline will be more noticeable by many.
In contrast, a female’s hairline is more oval, creating a facial feminization.
When we want to grow our hair, that charming facial feminization is one of our main priorities to look like a fully transformed woman.
1. Massage Your Scalp
Whenever I take a bath, my routine includes massaging my scalp with an exfoliating scrub after washing it with shampoo.
I have learned how massaging the scalp can stimulate blood circulation to maintain the health of my hair.
By doing this, you deliver nutrients and oxygen to your hair follicles, preventing thinning of your hair.
Massaging your scalp can also aid in relieving yourself of tension and stress; it’s indeed a win-win!
However, you have to remember that the proper massage method should be slow and gentle to your scalp.
There are different ways to massage your scalp efficiently to stimulate hair growth.
Let me share the methods I have tried and what worked for me.
◆ Hair Massage Methods
Some of the hair massage methods I tried are traditional scalp massage, bath massage, and using my favorite oils.
Personally, my favorite and the most effective method is massaging my hair while taking a bath.
Traditional Scalp Massage
If you prefer the traditional way, you just need your fingertips to apply gentle pressure in circular motions on your scalp.
Massage your hair for at least five minutes eight to ten times a day.
Bath Massage
Another favorite of mine involves massaging your hair with a shampoo or an exfoliating scrub while taking a bath.
This method certainly helped reduce my tension headaches and made me feel relaxed for the entire day!
Using Your Preferred Oils
If you want to have spa vibes, you should try massaging your scalp with your favorite oils.
Like the bath massage, this also helps with relieving your headaches and stress.
However, this method is my least favorite because I hate it when my fingertips and hair get oily after massaging!
2. Keep Your Hair Moisturized and Hydrated
One of the few things I learned from my hairstylist, who styled my wigs back when my hair was still too short, was how our hair easily becomes dry, especially when we’re growing it.
Dry hair is certainly not good because it might get brittle, which breaks easily!
I learned the importance of keeping my hair hydrated and moisturized while we’re growing it.
If you regularly bleach or color your hair, all the more that you need to apply a conditioner or hydrating mask.
One of my favorite products to apply to my hair is a hydrating mask.
Don’t forget to apply the mask at least two times a month.
Doing this ensures that the ends of your hair stay healthy-looking, shiny, and bouncy.
◆ The Right Hydrating Mask
We all know each person has unique hair with various textures, and different hair masks are suitable for each.
Thin and Fine Hair
I recommend looking for hydrating masks with coconut, jojoba, or almond oil for fine and thin hair like mine.
These ingredients help in maintaining the bounciness of your hair.
Thick Hair
It would be best if you had a heavy and rich mask for your thick hair.
Such ingredients that will maintain your hair’s softness and smoothness are shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, and avocado.
Damaged or Color-Treated Hair
If you love having your hair treated in the salons, you need hydrating masks that will stimulate your hair’s natural oil production.
My hairstylist recommends products with keratin protein, shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and fruit oils.
3. Get Yourself a Fringe
For my fellow transgender women, I know you hate seeing your defined brow bones and receding hairlines, don’t you?
I don’t like how these features bring out my masculinity, so I always want to hide them as much as I can!
One of the best things I learned to cover such features is getting a fringe.
There are various styles and shapes, which makes them so versatile!
It also adds to the overall sophistication of your look, making you look more appealing and feminine.
◆ Various Fringe Styles
To help you decide which fringe to try out, I have listed below the styles I have tried for my hair.
- Curtain bangs are perfect for any hair.
- Wispy bangs for fine and thin hair.
- Baby bangs to accentuate your beautiful eyes.
- Blunt bangs if you have a textured bob hairstyle.
- Side bangs for any hairstyle.
- Wavy bangs for hair with more volume.
4. Trim Your Hair Regularly
You’re probably confused about why you should trim your hair when you want to grow it.
Ironically, trimming your hair regularly keeps it healthy and prevents the ends from breaking easily.
Doing this also prevents split ends, which affects your hair growth.
My hairstylist usually trims an inch every ten to twelve weeks to maintain my hair.
She always tells me that trimming regularly helps keep my hair strands looking healthy and strong.
5. Brush Your Hair Regularly Before You Sleep
I know how tempting it is to leave your hair uncombed right before bed when you had a long, tiring day at work.
However, believe me when I say that brushing it before you sleep can help distribute natural oils and help clean and stimulate your scalp.
When you brush, you let your scalp’s natural oil keep your hair strands moisturized and hydrated, thus keeping your hair healthy and well-maintained.
◆ The Right Brush
Similar to hydrating masks, different brushes are suitable depending on your hair type.
Thin Hair
Having thin hair like mine, you’d know how fragile our hair strands are.
Thin hair is more prone to breaking, so choosing a gentle brush is important.
The brush I have been using has rounded nylon bristles, and they’re soft and gentle on my scalp.
Thick Hair
If you have thick hair, you’ll need a bigger brush to balance the ratio of your hair strands to it.
It’s also going to be hard to detangle your hair when the brush is too small.
6. Be Proud of Your Hair Texture
For my natural queens who have wavy or curly hair, embrace the natural texture of your hair!
You can always apply leave-in conditioners to maintain the curls of your hair throughout the day.
Leave-in conditioners also help control the frizz of your hair and make your curls look shinier and more bouncy.
I asked my hairstylist what’s the best leave-in product for textured hair, and she recommended conditioners with argan or coconut oil!
7. Get a Color that Compliments Your Look
When choosing the right color for my hair, I learned this the hard way.
I loved having my hair color-treated on what was trending online.
Over the years, my hairstylist encouraged me to pick only a color that would match my skin color and overall look.
It’s also important to choose a color that matches your hairstyle.
A good hair color lets you stand out from the crowd and will make you look more attractive while also enhancing your femininity.
8. Avoid Frequent Heat-Styling
Your frequent use of heat-styling tools can affect your hair’s health and growth.
To avoid further damaging it, avoid over-styling, or you can use heat protectants if you want to iron it.
When you avoid frequent heat-styling, you also preserve your hair’s overall health.
Too much heat-styling can also decrease the moisture in your hair, increasing the risk of breakage and damage.
When choosing heat protectants, go with the product that can protect as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
9. Switch to Silk Pillowcases
One of the easiest hair tips I will be sharing is probably switching to silk pillowcases.
I swear, sleeping with them will make your hair easier to manage when you wake up in the morning!
They are proven to cause less hair breakage and frizz; they can also help retain the moisture in your hair to prevent it from becoming dry.
If you’re wondering whether purchasing silk pillowcases is worth it, they definitely are! Here are some other benefits that can convince you to buy one now:
- Keeps your face feeling refreshed and healthy.
- Helps your skin retain its moisture, preventing it from becoming dry.
- Decrease your exposure to chemicals because silk is naturally made from silkworms.
- Hypoallergenic provides resistance to molds, fungi, and dust mites.
- Helps reduce your facial wrinkles.
- Feels good on the skin, resulting in prolonged hours of good sleep.
