8 Makeup Removal Tips for Crossdressers
Do you understand the importance of proper makeup removal?
Our enthusiasm for trying on makeup for the first time as crossdressers (male to female) can cause us to overlook the importance of removing it.
Essentially, if you want clear, youthful-looking skin, you must always remove all of your makeup before going to bed.
Leaving makeup on can cause dry skin, acne, and even fine lines due to collagen breakdown.
On the other hand, leaving eye makeup on causes many problems, including eye infections, itchiness, cysts, and broken eyelashes.
So, how do you remove your makeup? You know how much we emphasize using gentle cleansers for face makeup removal if you’re familiar with our blogs.
You can also remove your makeup by washing your face.
You should follow these two steps with rinsing, moisturizing, and implementing critical measures to avoid breakouts, all of which I’ve discussed below.
In this post, I’ll explain the best makeup removal tips to help maintain the appearance of your skin after using makeup; they might even make you glow a little!
Hopefully, you can incorporate them into your nighttime routines.
1. Using bedside wipes
After a long day at work or a night full of fun, you might feel too tired to engage in a multi-step process.
During such times, most people give up and go to bed with a face full of makeup.
That used to be me—late-night laziness used to get the best out of me when I removed my makeup before bedtime.
One thing that helped me was leaving a few simple makeup removal wipes at my bedside.
Some alcohol-free options can successfully remove your foundation, eye shadow, and concealer and leave your face feeling moist.
While using them, start by removing the makeup, cleansing your face with water, and patting it dry.
2. Use a Cleanser
A face cleanser is a must-have if you wear makeup.
When using a cleanser, massage it over your face for 15 seconds, paying special attention to your hairline, the area around your ears, and under your chin.
Then, using a wet, white cotton cloth, remove all the makeup.
Scrub gently until no more blush or foundation is visible on the fabric.
Always remember to do it gently—taking off your makeup should be a gentle process that does not leave your skin irritated or dehydrated.
I prefer using a cleansing oil that will not dry out your skin.
While using oil, swipe it on your lids, brows, and lips with your fingers, then gently massage it across your face.
This will soothe your skin and loosen your makeup, allowing you to avoid excessive rubbing.
Then, take a flat, square cotton pad — I prefer these to balls, which are usually rough — and dab it with cleansing oil.
3. Remember to wash your face
You were already aware that using wipes sounded inconceivable, weren’t you?
That’s why I followed it up with washing your face after using them. Here we go again.
Wipes can be an excellent first step in removing makeup; in reality, they are best used before cleansing.
However, a proper sink activity should ideally come next.
Many of us make the mistake of using makeup wipes and sleeping, yet the makeup isn’t all off—you still need to do some washing.
Water and face wash is what will truly remove residue and prepare you for a good night’s sleep.
If you only use wipes and then moisturize, you may push dirt or debris into your skin’s pores and wake up with blackheads or pimples the next day.
Remember that washing your face can also include steaming it; however, this should come before washing.
To start, fill a bowl or sink with hot water. Then, move your face over it for at least one minute.
This should help loosen your pores, allowing the cleaner to penetrate your skin to remove debris and makeup deeply.
Because steaming requires extra time, you can do it occasionally.
When cleaning your face, take note of your beard shadow/beard and your hairline, as makeup tends to accumulate in those regions.
Apply soap and gently massage your face with it in round motions.
Rinse your face after that with warm water until it’s squeaky clean.
4. Taking off eye makeup
It’s a smart option to have remover specifically made for the eye area on hand, especially if you wear a lot of eye makeup.
Eye makeup removers are available in liquid or pre-moistened pad form.
For waterproof eyeliner or mascara, an oil-based eye remover is ideal.
Hydrating formulas are available that will not dry out your eye area.
Apply liquid formulas with a cotton puff and carefully remove the makeup.
My preferred option is previously moistened pads because they are convenient and effective at removing my favorite long-lasting eyeliner.
It is critical not to yank on your eyes’ delicate area.
When you remove long-lasting eye makeup, take it slowly.
Hold a moistened cotton puff or a previously moistened pad against your eyes before wiping away the makeup.
It helps to loosen your eyelashes and skin makeup by holding the pad in place.
Loosening the makeup will help it come off quickly.
If any traces of eye makeup remain under your bottom lashes, remove them with a cotton swab dipped in remover. It is critical to be very gentle.
5. Cleansing off your face
Sometime back, I used to use cleansers that weren’t designed to remove makeup.
If you suspect yours is one of these, try a makeup remover first, such as micellar water, or switch to a cleansing balm or oil.
These are the most effective at removing even the most stubborn makeup, such as brow pigments, liquid lipsticks, and stay-put foundations.
You may be thinking, “There’s no way oil-based products can leave your skin fresher.”
However, the new oil cleaners genuinely work wonders. Also, remember that oil dissolves in oil—and so they’ll do their work perfectly.
Nevertheless, if you don’t like the feel of oily skin, wipe your face with a washcloth after using it.
Alternatively, you can use milky and gel textured cleaners, which will equally do wonders.
6. Rinsing off your face
It’s always important to rinse after cleansing off your face with whichever method you choose.
This stage is what I mostly call hydrate—although hydration ends with moisturizing.
So, after your face is clean and fresh, be sure to apply a toner, especially if your skin is oily.
The purpose of a toner is to freshen up your skin without removing its natural moisture.
This means that the toner will not irritate your skin or cause it to become overly dry.
A toner also sets up the skin to absorb your post-cleansing moisturizer as well as any other skin treatments you may use.
Further, it assists in removing any traces of makeup or cleanser that may have been left behind.
And so, with a cotton pad, gently apply your toner and let it rest.
Alternatively, you can use a washcloth to wipe off excess cleanser if you lack a toner.
7. Makeup Removal End with moisturizing
After gently removing your makeup and cleansing your skin, you can apply any moisturizer you prefer.
Doing so will ensure that you wake up with spotless skin when you get up.
This way, you don’t have to waste time washing off last night’s beauty products before applying sunscreen and day serums.
That’s right; you don’t have to cleanse your face if you did it the previous night.
Your face is already clean, and washing it in the morning can further dehydrate it.
However, those with oily skin should wash first thing in the morning to remove the night’s oil buildup.
8. Makeup Removal Pro Tip: Avoiding Breakouts
The whole purpose of cleansing your skin—that is, doing this routine—is to avoid breakouts, acne, sites, and other things that negatively affect your skin’s appearance.
And so, apart from adhering to these recommended practices, I’d also like to offer some advice on your bedding.
Because your head rests on your pillows, always make sure that your pillowcases are made of linen or silk rather than synthetic fabrics, which irritate your skin, causing breakouts.
Also, make sure that your pillows are clean at all times—debris, dirt, and sometimes germs can undermine your facial cleansing routine efforts.
Undoubtedly, we should always ensure that our faces’ appearances are pleasant for femininity.
A clean and healthy-looking face will not only look good with makeup on but will also increase your confidence.
Think of some of the tips (from the ones I’ve provided) you need to incorporate into your night routine. Find one that suits you.
Of course, you shouldn’t beat yourself for failing to adhere to them each day, but you can always pick up from where you left off when you do.
