How to Spend Thanksgiving Day as a Crossdresser
I know Thanksgiving is a festive date rarely seen outside the United States.
And I know its original meaning was to erase the actual history of how the Americas were colonized.
But besides that, we can’t deny that this holiday is quite important for the occidental culture.
I must add that after many generations, it now has a new meaning.
The goal of thanksgiving now is to let people express their gratitude toward others.
It’s a time to be together with those who care about you and those who you care about, those who are important to you.
With that in mind, we can say that it’s worth giving Thanksgiving a try.
So, do what you can to have a good time and improve your relations with people you like.
Now that you know why it is valid to celebrate this holiday, I want to help you understand how to do so as a crossdresser.
I’ll give you some tips not only on how to dress up for the occasion but also on how to have a good time and enjoy your day and how to show people that you care about them.
This way, you’ll figure out what to do and with whom you should spend your Thanksgiving evening.
To give you better advice, I’ll try to talk about the most general aspects since the specific ones may vary from person to person.
Nonetheless, if you are a crossdresser and want to enjoy Thanksgiving with your loved ones, you’ll have to be brave.
This article is better suited for crossdressers who have already come out, but those who haven’t may also find some useful information as well.
I say that because if you are already out as a crossdresser, you have way more freedom to express yourself.
Also, you can justify it without coming up with excuses.
But some advice included here is also valid to those who still keep it a secret since there’s more than a single way to enjoy Thanksgiving.
With all of that in mind, it’s up to the reader to decide whether each piece of advice is valid or not for their particular situation.
1. Dressing up to Thanksgiving: What should you wear?
Let’s start with the easy part.
Your crossdressing outfit for Thanksgiving should contain things you already own.
But you may buy new stuff if you wish, tho.
First, I’ll talk about the practical aspects of it, then I’ll give a bit of advice about aesthetics.
As Thanksgiving is a signature holiday of a country located in the North Hemisphere, those who celebrate it tend to be located there.
At this time of the year, the transition from autumn to winter is beginning to occur, with a very noticeable decline in temperature.
Thus, I must warn you to avoid wearing sheer clothes and revealing outfits, as you could get a cold and end up sick.
But how can someone look feminine and pretty and protect themselves from the colder temperatures at the same time?
Well, a pantyhose should come in handy, as it brings lots of benefits for crossdressers.
It allows you to keep your legs well-outlined and smooth, highlighting your feminine features.
By combining two or more layers of opaque hosiery, you keep the benefits above and also manage to keep your legs warm and safe.
You can also take advantage of the temperature to make your arms look more feminine.
It’s basically the same principle as with your legs and pantyhose, but this time using long-sleeved shirts and gloves.
Although temperatures are dropping, it’s not yet as cold as winter, so you may still be able to wear outfits that are a bit revealing.
But my recommendation is to make use of the weather to use clothing coverage to feminize you comfortably.
2. Choosing the color
Regarding colors, I like to think of this date as the mean time between Halloween and Christmas, and that’s how I choose colors.
We have the red, green, and gold from December and the black, purple, and orange from October.
But besides that, it’s a good idea to incorporate light gray, dark blue, and beige tones into your outfit.
They help to blend colors as mid-tones, representing the transition and maintaining a cheerful spirit.
3. About accessories
Finally, in terms of accessories, I have a few recommendations as well.
Boots, scarves, and bonnets are very in touch with the season.
Crossdressers may also make use of small leather purses, colorful necklaces, and other types of jewelry.
This kind of stuff makes us feel more feminine.
My advice is to try and match everything you can with the colors I’ve mentioned before, to create an outfit that fits the season.
The last thing I have to mention here is more of a note on common sense, as I saw people doing so more than once.
Please avoid wearing stuff that is made to resemble native American outfits.
Regardless of having good intentions, doing that is cultural appropriation.
Some people will find this behavior offensive and in bad taste.
4. How to enjoy your Thanksgiving as a crossdresser
This question is quite broad, so as I said, I’ll talk about the big picture and avoid being too specific.
After all, my goal is to help as many crossdressers as possible.
What I want to point out is that each crossdresser has its own life, with its unique possibilities and needs.
With that in mind, I’ll give as many alternatives as I can come up with, so feel free to adapt each advice to your reality.
Well, first of all, assuming you’re out as a crossdresser, you should consider how each person reacted to you coming out.
This way, you may have an idea of who would accept you crossdressing during Thanksgiving and who wouldn’t.
After you make such considerations, try to arrange a Thanksgiving dinner solely with the people who accept you for who you are.
If you have a really big family, with lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and such, that you wouldn’t like if you showed up as a girl, there may be a few alternatives.
Talk to the relatives and acquaintances that support you.
Try to arrange a separate Thanksgiving event in which you can be yourself and dress up.
5. A few alternatives
Another option, considering a practice that became quite popular during the pandemic, is to organize a video meeting.
Make sure you invite people that you care about so you can chat for a bit and exchange Thanksgiving messages.
The idea is to create a rather supportive environment, and what really matters is the symbolism.
You may show up as a female in such a meeting.
Then, you can change into male clothes for a reunion with conservative or intolerant relatives.
I know, if they don’t respect your existence, why should you even bother to show up to a Thanksgiving dinner with them?
It’s not always that simple.
Sometimes, we may think of someone with great respect and love, even if that’s not reciprocated, and we wouldn’t like to hurt their feelings even if they’ve hurt ours.
On other occasions, it may be some relative whose presence we must tolerate for the greater good of the family.
There are many scenarios in which a crossdresser will have to deal with rejection from someone they care about, and these are just a few of them.
Some crossdressers have a poor relationship with their close relatives.
Others came out to some friends but not to the family.
For them, I may have a few solutions as well.
One of them is to show up in boy mode to a family dinner with close relatives and spend a couple of hours with them.
After that, head up to the house of a supportive friend, taking with you your crossdressing supplies and your outfit.
Dress up in a safe space, and go out with the friends you can gather.
It’s even better if said friends are also crossdressers or LGBTQ people since it reinforces the idea that we can help each other.
Spending time with people you like, even if they aren’t tied to you by blood as your relatives, is also valid.
The whole point of Thanksgiving is to be close to those people you feel grateful to, those people who support and care about you.
If you can help and support them back, it’s the biggest proof of gratitude one can ever give.
6. Be grateful to yourself
Even if you don’t manage to crossdress during any Thanksgiving reunion, you can still enjoy it as a crossdresser.
If you get some time alone, dress up and take some pictures.
You can keep them as a souvenir of who you are and be yourself, the very person to whom you are grateful.
Thank yourself for persisting and being true to your identity.
Thank yourself for being brave and for not giving up on who you are and what you like to be.
In the end, what matters is acknowledging how far you have come and how much you have accomplished.
All of that is by not giving up on your dreams and your personality.
We can conclude that no Thanksgiving is a date worth celebrating.
It’s good to remember and thank everyone who cares about us for who we are, and showing gratitude towards them is priceless.
We can do that in many ways, and everyone has their own set of people to whom they are grateful.
Being yourself is a way to demonstrate you feel safe around someone.
Crossdressing in front of them makes it very clear.
You don’t owe gratitude to people who refuse to validate your existence.
Yet, sometimes, we must deal with it.
If you manage to do so, it’s another reason for you to be grateful to yourself.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone, and I’m grateful to have you all hearing what I have to say!
