Dressing Rectangular Bodies Beautifully for Crossdressers
To my fellow crossdressers, I know how difficult it is to pick the right outfit to hide our rectangular bodies and create a feminine look.
We might look more masculine in the wrong clothes, and we certainly don’t want that!
With this, I’ll share the fashion hacks I have learned to mask my straight and boxy frame while looking girlier!
Let me share some fashion tips, such as styling your body, choosing the right tops and bottoms, accessorizing, and more!

Understanding What a Rectangular Body is
A rectangular body is generally lean and tall, and men commonly have this body type.
It’s not curvy, has no well-defined waist, and the lower body (especially the booty part) is flat.
This body type can be frustrating to style while mimicking the hourglass shape we desire.
As for me, I often wear body shapers to make my chest bigger, hips rounder or waist look smaller!
It’s time to get a hold of different fashion tips to style this body shape to help you look more feminine and sexier!
1. Adding Dimensions to Your Frame
When you add dimensions to your rectangular body frame, you break up your straight silhouette, creating “curves” similar to women’s.
You can do this by trying the simple tips below:
- Wear vibrant and bright colors around your upper and lower body, but never on your waist, or else you’ll look straighter.
- Wearing bras with silicone breast forms to lift your chest area, making it look bigger.
- Choosing well-structured clothes that have a pre-formed hourglass shape.
- Getting clothes with different details, prints, and textures.
- Avoid oversized clothes that make you look boxier.
2. Defining the Waist
I love wearing anything that defines my waist and makes it look smaller.
It’s a quick and easy way to create illusional curves, making you look more feminine! Here are some of the fashion tips I learned:
- Avoid tucking in your tops in your bottoms, as this emphasizes your boxy figure and a straight waist.
- Wearing dark colors around your waist to make you look sexier.
- Use girdles or corsets to tighten your waist.
During crossdressing, we want to look as girly as we desire, and we must choose the right tops for our rectangular body frames.
Several necklines are available, and they can majorly affect how our bodies look when we crossdress!
3. Scoop-neck
Scoop or round necklines are one of the top choices when buying tops.
These necklines create an illusion of a bigger chest area, breaking off that straight appearance you have on your upper body.
Of course, don’t forget to wear your breast forms to enhance your breasts more, making them appear bigger and rounder!
4. V-neck
Common for both men and women, v-necklines are also excellent choices with rectangular body frames.
They make your chest look bigger while emphasizing and highlighting your collarbones.
I know our collarbones are not as evident as women’s, but we can apply a highlighter (which I always do) on them to make them pop out!
5. Sweetheart
One of my favorites is a sweetheart neckline.
It’s scalloped to create smooth curves that accentuate my breasts, especially when I wear breast forms!
Sweetheart necklines are also very feminine-looking, and they make your upper body look sexier and more sophisticated.
What You Should Avoid
Straight or square necklines are what you should totally avoid because they will add squareness to your already very rectangular body frames!
These neckline shapes are not flattering on your upper body, and they will certainly not help you look girlier during crossdressing.
6. Wide Suspenders
If you’re used to wearing long or short sleeves, it’s time to change that habit when crossdressing.
It might seem too simple a detail, but wearing the right sleeve type can make your shoulders look less wide and more feminine.
One simple tip I learned from my stylists is to wear wide suspenders inside your crossdressing outfits because they can help in magically reducing your shoulder width!
For more slender and girlier arms and shoulders, you can also choose to wear bodysuits.
They do a great job of masking your masculine features.
So, if you’re looking for one, Roanyer creates some of the best and most affordable ones.
Choose a bodysuit color that completely matches your skin tone, or wear a long-sleeved top so that no one notices you’re wearing one.
What You Should Avoid
You don’t want people to be seeing your wide and boxy shoulders, so avoid fitted sleeves.
They are shapeless and can make you look even more rectangular.
Fitted sleeves can also emphasize your manly arms, making you look bulky and more masculine.
My stylist also mentioned avoiding loose sleeves such as flawed, puffed, princess, or flutter sleeves.
These sleeve types can visually increase your shoulder width, making your shoulders appear wider and more muscular.
7. Knitwear
If you enjoy wearing warm outfits during crossdressing, especially in the winter, the right type of knitwear matters, too!
I enjoy wearing knitwear with relaxed fits with curved details to soften my rectangular silhouette.
My stylist says it’s nice to mix and match bold fabrics, textures, and patterns to add volume to your upper body.
These details can add extra curves to your boxed shape, which can help in creating an hourglass illusion.
What You Should Avoid
Similar to sleeves, don’t wear anything fitted.
It outlines your rectangular shape, making you look more masculine and less appealing during crossdressing.
Fitted knitwear can also accentuate your flat-chestedness, which certainly does not help with looking girly and sexy!
8. Jackets and Coats That End Near Your Hips
Now it’s time for your outerwear, and you must always define your waist and make it look more tightened.
One thing you can do is wear embellishments like belts, corsets, or girdles.
These shapers can certainly create a smaller waist, giving you the shape you want when crossdressing.
Another pro tip: choose jackets and coats that end near your hips, giving them volume and making them appear rounder.
Avoid anything that will end on your waist level because these jackets will emphasize the boxiness of your waist area, making you look even manlier.
Now that you have mastered the top to wear, it’s time to find a bottom that matches it.
I know that we’re used to wearing pants or shorts, but now’s the time to experiment and add skirts to our collection.
9. Wide Leg Trousers & Flare Trousers
Women’s trousers come in various forms, and it can be not very clear to choose the best one.
My advice: a good pair of trousers that will add volume to your lower body are those with flare details at the bottom, such as wide-legged, boot cut, and cargo.
Other patterns and details such as pockets, whiskering, and turn-ups can also add interest to your legs and make you look less squarish.
Don’t forget to wear hip pads or butt shapers to make your lower body look curvier and sexier.
My stylists learned another bonus tip: wearing low-rise and mid-rise bottoms with wide waistbands.
They don’t emphasize my waist, so people won’t notice how rectangular and boxy my body shape is.
What You Should Avoid
Straight-fitted trousers that are high-waisted are certainly a big no!
They will emphasize your rectangular body shape, which is not good when you’re crossdressing as a woman!
10. Choose skirt styles with flared details and hemlines
Skirts are not clothes we’re used to wearing, but it’s time to invest in them.
They are excellent in volumizing our lower body, making our hips and butt appear rounder and curvier.
Choose skirt styles with flared details and hemlines, including those with ruching, pleats, or ruffles.
Also, try investing in colorful and vibrant skirts with prints because they can also add interest to your lower body.
If you want to wear straight skirts, enhance the shape of your hips and booties by wearing hip pads or butt lifters to make you look more hourglass and less boxy.
What You Should Avoid
Angular A-line skirts are a major no!
I used to wear them, but my stylist insisted on throwing them out because they enhanced my rectangular body shape, making me look less voluminous.
Full skirts that are too long are also not advisable because they don’t accentuate anything on your lower body, making you look less attractive.
Dresses come in almost every style, so it’s best to narrow your choices down with these options:
11. Fit and Flare
Fit and flare dresses are tight around the waist and flared at the bottom.
This design defines the waist, which is an excellent choice to create an hourglass illusion after wearing your girdles or bodysuits.
12. Belted Dress
I know I keep reiterating this, but belts are certainly your best friend with styling your rectangular frames!
They cinch your waist, making it look smaller and accentuating your hips.
It’s also my go-to dress when I’m too lazy to match a top and a pair of trousers because it perfectly creates the hourglass shape I desire!
13. Knowing Which Swimsuit is Best
Picture this: it’s summertime, and you want to hang out by the beach with your crossdresser friends.
What’s the best swimsuit you can wear? My suggestion: anything one-piece with cut-outs that are strategically placed!
It’s my favorite design and style because the cut-outs create a smaller waist and rounder hips, making me look sexy and feminine!
14. Accessorizing with Style
Before you leave your house and meet your friends, don’t forget to accessorize!
Accessories help bring your look together, creating that perfect crossdressing get-up you desire!
Rounded-Toe Sandals
One good way to mask your rectangular body frame is by wearing rounded-toe heels.
They are very flattering and also hide your toes when you’re too lazy to put on nail polish!
Rounded-toe sandals are also excellent choices to hide your wide and flat feet because the rounded curves help make your feet look more feminine and less flat.
Waist Belts
As I said, you’ll be needing waist belts more than you know.
They are your holy grail accessories and provide the fastest way to flatter your boxy silhouette, creating curves in the right places.
Additionally, they are very stylish and can elevate your casual crossdressing look!
Flaunt Your Rectangular Bodies
It can be quite challenging to look feminine with our squarish forms, but knowing how to style and what pieces to get can certainly help.
I love wearing anything with stylish belts because the belts make my waist look smaller while making me look chic and fab!
Body shapers are also my go-to products to break my straight silhouette, making me look curvy and sexy.
