Hello, lovelies! How are you today? Anxious about the upcoming Pride Month? Are you planning to take part in a parade near you? If so, I’ve done a little research and came up with the biggest Pride Month events in the world! Join this wonderful and fun community and celebrate diversity!

Since 1969 June has been a special time for the LGBTQ+ community around the world. In this article, we are going to see why that is and how it became an international movement. Keep reading to learn the history of Pride Month and find out about the best celebrations held around the world!

A Little Bit of History

To learn about the history of Pride Month is getting to know how significant it is. As we all know, gay rights were inexistent in most parts of the world some years ago. Damn, it still isn’t in some places. But things were far worse in general not so long ago. Pride Month’s parades are a tradition that started to commemorate the terrifying events known as the “Stonewall riots”.

The Stonewall riots were a series of targeted police raids on gay displays at the Stonewall Inn in New York in 1969. As the name implies, this encounter became violent and many people were denied legal rights. This act of discrimination was all but unforgotten. During the following year, in 1970, the first gay pride marches took place in many cities in the United States. Since then, the movement and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights hasn’t stopped growing around the world.

Biggest Pride Month Celebrations

New York City Pride March

What better place to start this list than with the parade that happens in the city where it all started. As we are all aware thanks to the media, New York City is one of the biggest metropolises around the world. Not only that but also has one of the most pluricultural displays of voices and expressions. It is expected that we find one of the most amazing Pride Month parades there are. With millions of people taking part in this beautiful display of the community. June comes with many open events to commemorate as it should, and everyone can learn more about LGBTQ+ history. As I mentioned before, in the Big Apple also happens to occur one of the biggest Pride parades! This year’s date is June 26th, but there are going to be a lot of minor events during next month! Berlin Pride Parade

If you happen to be across the Atlantic on the European mainland, you can visit Berlin for one of the biggest parades on this continent. This big event is locally known as Christopher Street Day (CSD). The parade will take place next July 23rd and will start at midday at Kurfürstendamm. From there, attendees will march to Brandenburger Tor and arrive approximately at 14:00. Be punctual if you don’t want to miss any of the action! Germans go all out and this is a spectacle by itself. Athens Pride Parade

Continuing a bit with the European continent, with far nicer weather, we can find another impressive parade going on in Greece. One of the biggest LGBTQ+ gatherings in this continent, formed not only by locals. Many tourists and people who live in the surrounding areas come close to take part in one of the most massive pride events around the world. The main parade takes place on a Sunday, which will be the 4th of this year. Following the big march, many minor events will take place during the month. Endorsing the global movement, June is a month where the story of the LGBTQ+ community takes a central role in the cultural displays. San Francisco Pride Parade

Back to the new continent, more precisely to San Francisco, California. There we will find remnants of the original movement that started it all back in 1970. One of the biggest LGBTQ+ friendly cities in the world, you will feel quite at home here. The Pride Month March will take place on June 25th and 26th. A two-day-long event! You know it’s going to be intense! Starting from Embarcadero, the march traverses the heart of the city through Market Street. Millions of attendees and spectators come to the city to witness this raw display of freedom. The parade ends at the Civic Center of the city where many artistic displays take place. Mexico City Pride Parade

Crossing the southern border we find one of the wildest pride parades in the world. Millions of people come to Mexico D.F. to take part in the events of “La Marcha del Orgullo LGBTQ+”. From June 20th to 26th, the city’s streets shine in rainbow colors and many events take place to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility and rights. This tradition dates back to 1978 and it has been growing in popularity and craziness ever since.

The main event, “la Marcha de la Diversidad” (“March for Diversity”) is one of the largest parades you can hope to be in. After the titanic march ends at the city’s well recognizable “Zócalo”, the craziest party you can imagine takes place on the streets. All through the night, you can enjoy this joyful culture celebrating every form of love expression! Marcha del Orgullo, Madrid

Madrid’s Pride Parade takes place in the famous gay neighborhood of the city, “Chueca”. This Spanish city has one of the biggest LGBTQ+ communities around the world. And you can see that in the streets! The “Chueca” neighborhood is a lovely one full of restaurants and bars where you can enjoy the delicious Spanish cuisine. Over two million people gather around at Atocha Station to march for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. The parade ends at Plaza de Colón and will take place in June’s last week. Paris “Marche des Fiertés LGBTQ+”

LGBTQ+ Paris Pride Month is one hell of a ride if you are looking for partying for a whole week. Parisiens celebrate every June for seven days, culminating the events in one big massive parade. This march will take place on June 25th this year and it sure does look like fun! This event has been a tradition in the French capital since the 80s. The march will start at Place de la Concorde and ends at Place de la République. This procession is a great way to get to know Paris’ streets and main historic landmarks. If you join the parade, you will not only fight for a good cause but also will get to know many of the city’s secrets. Taipei Pride Events

In the Asian continent, we can find impressively LGBTQ+ friendly societies of the world. Taiwan hosts one of the most massive pride events on this continent. Many tourists from nearby countries come to Taipei to experience a massive 4-day event! March, music, rainbow flags, and many other displays take over the streets these days! The main parade starts at Gay Village, goes around the city, and ends back at the starting point with a wild party! The main events occur during the last week of the month, but you can feel the joy in the air! Taiwan is a bit peculiar. Even though it isn’t the only country that celebrates the Pride March once June ends, they take quite a lot of their time to do so. Many countries move their dates a little after Pride Month is over, but the Taiwaneses wait until October to celebrate their pride .

Tel Aviv Pride March

Another massive LGBTQ+ community that earned the city the title of the LGBTQ+ capital of the Middle East. A week full of events starts next June 18th and finishes with a big parade in the city on the 25th. The march starts at 10 am with a big fair at Ben Tsyion and travel to the Herbert Samual Promenade. The last stop is at Charles Clore Garden where many DJs and artists join forces to unleash a crazy party. One of the most beautiful and friendly places to spend next June!

São Paulo Pride Parade

Last but not least, probably the biggest demonstration of LGBTQ+ pride around the world. We all know how Latin American countries have hot blood running through their veins. But few come close to the wild and crazy Brazilians! Millions of attendees every year march through São Paulo’s streets every June and I’m sure this won’t be the exception! With the COVID regulations coming down on the country, some expect over 4 million attendees! June 15th is the date that marks the start of a 4-day long party, culminating on the 19th with a massive parade.
